2. Meditations
‘Meditations in Denim’ as the event is called, served as an opportunity to learn how to mend clothing using hand stitching. The workshop was lead by Amelie @artovchain a fashion design student at Syracuse. For this first workshop she showcased three stitch techniques: the running stitch, the backstitch, and finally the chainstitch.
There were six people who attended the event as participants, and each brought a piece of clothing to mend.
‘Localized’ was the first physical manifestion of the mikebrain.xyz blog, and ‘Meditations’ is the second. Over the last three or so weeks since ‘Meditations’ a lot of thought has gone into what exactly these projects are hoping to explore. Right now they seem to be around notions of temporary spaces and the workshop.
This was the first Mikebrain.xyz event where something was to be taught, as opposed to the previous event which served the broader purpose of community building and idea circulation. After the success of this second event, one thing is certain in future events: the notion of learning must be present; whether it be a new idea or skill.
TEMPORARY SPACES THAT CONTINUE TO PERMIATE.
