Peer Lab 1 ‘Notions of The Notebook’
‘Notions of The Notebook’ recognized students’ use of the notebook as a means of interacting with the world around them. This workshop was a space for students to learn how notebooks, sketchbooks, and journals can be tools that strengthen their critical thinking skills.
What unique processes for keeping a
notebook can students teach each other?
For the first workshop, students were invited to share and exchange notions as it pertained to keeping a notebook, sketchbook, or journal. In this context, notions are concepts or skills learned as a result of keeping a notebook. ‘Notebook’ is used as an all encompassing term for any book with paper that someone can write on.
While the preliminary survey of WS #1 showed that students feel as though keeping a notebook improved their emotional well-being as well as skill enhancement, the share & exchange portion of the workshop revealed that this workshop was best utilized in a discussion of skill enhancement. Presentations by Architecture student Alex Barney as well as Interior and Enviornmental and Interior Design student Ana Burwell served as stimulations of an exchange both students choosing to use their time as a means of sharing and engagin with creative processes.
